Top Kenyan female musician Akothee was on Saturday crowned the Best Female musician in East Africa at the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) 2019 held in Dallas, Texas.

Akothee emerged top in the region beating the likes of; Vanessa Mdee, Nandy, Victoria Kimani, Fena Gitu among others.

While receiving the award, she thanked her fans for their overwhelming support.

"Am gonna accept this award, thank you so much AFRIMMA, thank you so much my fans," she said. 

Akothee dedicated the prestigious award to all single mothers across the world.

She urged women to always believe in themselves, and avoid paying too much attention to how the society looks them.

"For all the women in the house, there is power in believing in yourself, I don't care what you want to think about me because definitely I know what I think about myself and that's why I am here today," she said.

The renowned musician stressed on the importance of being original, adding that there is power in doing your own stuff without copying what others are doing.

"There is power in uniqueness, there is beauty in being unique," she opined.
