Kenyans have taken to social media to express their reactions after musicians launched complaints against the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) for paying them what they termed as peanuts.
Some of the top musicians who joined in the online discussion included Suzanna Owiyo, Khaligraph, Willy Paul among others. The musicians demanded to be paid what they rightly deserved.
A section of Kenyans online demanded MCSK to be forced through legal means to pay musicians the correct amount of money earned from their music.
They argued that there was no way top artistes would earn as little as Sh2500 yet their songs were being played all over the country. They also suggested for laws to be put in place so as to protect musicians and other content creators.
The discussion raged on and cited that the problem being witnessed at MCSK was a reflection of what was happening in the government.
They held that the trait of Kenyans specifically content creators not being paid deservedly begins with the government all the way to law enforcers and organizations such as MCSK.
