Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has blasted national football team Harambee Stars after a dismay performance in their opening match against Algeria.

Harambee Stars were defeated 2-0 in their first match in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) competitions on Sunday night in Cairo, Egypt.

In a tweet on Monday morning, Khalwale hit out at the team, claiming that they lacked attacking ideas. 

"Algeria 2-0 Kenya. Harambee Stars displayed nothing but an amazing total lack of attacking ideas in this match which they completed without a single shot on target! Bure kabisa!" said Khalwale.

Algeria dominated the first half of the match bagging two goals before the interval, However, Harambee Stars improved in the second half but were unable to score any goals.

Harambee Stars will face Tanzania in their next fixture, before clashing with Senegal in the last group C match.

Elsewhere, Tanzania suffered a 2-0 loss to Senegal.

Algeria and Senegal jointly top Group C with 3 points each, with a goal difference of two each.
