Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi on Monday night hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta for announcing gazettement of a Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) steering committee.
In a statement shared on his Twitter handle, Mudavadi said that the appointment of the committee will allow for public participation in the BBI report.
"I wish to hail President Uhuru Kenyatta for formally extending the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) process. After the release of the report late last year and the subsequent lapse of the life of the task force. The new lease of life for this process through appointment of a steering committee is a welcome opportunity for healthy engagement with ourselves as a people on the matters detailed in the report of last year," a section of the statement read.
According to Musalia Mudavadi, the announcement was timely as there was growing tension surrounding the debate on the BBI report.
The former Vice President further criticized the Kisii BBI rally that was led by Raila Odinga aimed at drawing support for the report.
He cited that the rally indicated there were people who were opposing the report; something that is not the case.
In the statement, the ANC party called upon various stakeholders to support the committee and give it the opportunity to carry out its duties.
