The marriage between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto is in shambles, renowned musician Suzanna Owiyo has noted.
Owiyo observed the two leaders who formed the ruling Jubilee Party were no longer seeing eye to eye, saying putting them together is like trying to mix water and oil, which can never happen.
The Afro-fusion singer and 'Kisumu 100' hitmaker admitted she had not thought that Uhuru and Ruto would go separate ways too soon following their back-to-back victories in 2013 and 2017 elections.
"Interesting times in Kenya. Been keenly observing the dynamics of our politics. I didn’t see this coming. Putting DP and President in one sitting is like mixing oil and water. Ni hayo tu," Owiyo tweeted on Sunday.
Political and public policy analyst Ochieng Kanyadudi agrees with Owiyo that the duo was no longer reading from the same script, saying the fallout should have been expected as soon as they formed their unity ahead of the 2013 polls.
"Uhuru and Ruto clearly seem to have never shared any vision grounded on ideology but convenience. Marriages of convenience last the period of adversity. They are based on fear more than goodwill," he wrote in an opinion piece.
"The President and his deputy have all but dropped any pretence at camaraderie and collegiality and seem to have decided to go their separate ways but unsure how to proceed without destabilising the apple cart," Kanyadudi added.
