Businessman Paul Kobia was on Friday arraigned in court over the fake gold saga.

The city tycoon appeared in court alongside 15 of his employees. 

The prosecution has accused the businessman of conspiring with his accomplishes to con one Antonio Cianci from Dubai in a deal that never was. According to the Prosecution, the incident occurred between April 23 and 25. 

”On diverse dates between April 23 to 25, under an office trading name Duaf International Limited and Malca Amit Limited, at a plot along Riverside drive in Kileleshwa area, jointly with others not before court carried metal boxes and falsely pretended that they were carrying on a genuine gold business,” the prosecutor stated.

The court charged the businessman and his employees with conspiring to commit an act of felony.

The co-accused include Gabriel Ndururi, Tanya Yvonne, Doreen Kathambi, Consolata Thindiri, Miriam Nyambura, Paul Gichuhi, Simon Wainaina, Patrick Ngulu, Benjamin Mutisya, Samson Kibet, Faith Kioko, Joyce Wenani, and James Masai. 

Police had raided the home of the businessman in a probe to determine his links to the alleged scandal. 

During the raid, police recovered different items including metal tongs, assorted rubber stamps, fake gold nuggets, Xtray spectrometers and smelting pots among other items. 

The businessman denied the charges levelled against him. The case is set to be heard on August 3, 2019.
