Speaking Wednesday on Standard Media Group-owned KTN's 'Point Blank', the renowned political analyst contended that the first president of Kenya belonged not only to his family but to over 40 million Kenyans.

"In that line we want to say that if that is what President Uhuru Kenyatta wants to do, he should not try to obliterate the memory of his father, " the ANC secretary general said.

Muluka went on to argue that the fact that the former head of state was never buried in Ichaweri, Kiambu was a strong reinforcement of the argument that he belonged to Kenyans.

President Uhuru publicly announced that after wide consultations, the Kenyatta family had decided to make the 41st anniversary of founding father'father's death the last public commemoration.

Jomo Kenyatta died peacefully in his sleep on 22, August, 1978.

His death took the country by surprise, plunging Kenyans into a state of mourning.

He was buried in a mausoleum around Parliament buildings.

Successive governments have publicly commemorated his death.

Some political analysts contend that move to pull the plug on the public commemoration was aimed at curbing the dynasty debate that has consumed Kenyan politics lately ahead of the 2022 elections.
