President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to fire Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has continued to cause jitters in Deputy President William Ruto’s camp.
Echesa has maintained that he was removed from office in an unfair manner.
In a wide-ranging interview with the Sunday Nation, Echesa said he lost his job because of his allegiance to the second in command.
He dismissed claims that he was printing fake currency after it emerged that he was being investigated over his links to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s impersonators.
The embattled former CS said that his support for Ruto, who is considered the front runner in the race for power, cost him dearly.
Echesa insisted that the President has not given him official communication in regard to the reason he was sent packing.
He noted that the race to succeed President Kenyatta played a great part in his sacking.
“I was sacked because of my unflinching support for Deputy President William Ruto,” he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
Before he was fired, Echesa dared Africa Union High Representative on Infrastructure Development Raila Amolo Odinga to engineer his dismissal. He reminded Raila that they are not age mates.
His allies have claimed Raila is to blame to his woes.
