For the first time in Kenya, now we have TV stations that target specific audiences as youths, farmers, businesspersons, lovers of music just to mention but a few.

Additionally, digital broadcasting has come with a variety of vernacular TV stations that target various tribes in the country.

Kikuyu TV stations lead the pack on the vernacular category with stations like Inooro, Kameme, Njata, Gikuyu, Three Stones, Maajabu among others.

However, investors in Kikuyu TV stations continue to pile up as another TV station is set to be launched very soon.

The Kikuyu TV station christened 'Mt Kenya TV' has hit the airwaves and is already threatening a major shake-up to its existing counterparts in the industry as it seeks to gain a niche in the competitive Kikuyu TV market.

Reports are rife that the TV station is on a poaching spree and has already brought on board over 10 editors, reporters and presenters from Kameme TV which is owned by Mediamax Networks.

Mediamax is in turn owned jointly by President Uhuru Kenyatta family, DP William Ruto and other small investors.

Mt Kenya TV, on the other hand, is reportedly owned by Andrew Ngirici, a close relative of the former head of Special Branch (now National Intelligence Service) the late James Kanyotu. Ngirici is husband to Kirinyaga Woman Rep Purity Ngirici.

The Ngiricis are said to have invested over Sh600 million in the new investment and the poached TV talents have been promised huge perks.

The TV station will be launched alongside a sister Kikuyu FM station which is said to be on the final touches ahead of the big launch. The FM station is also said to be eyeing popular on-air personalities currently working at Inooro and Kameme FM.

What comes out of this seemingly battle of titans is a matter of wait and see.
