The Kisii Governor James Ongwae has now revealed that the rate of HIV infection in Kisii county has dropped since he was installed as the Governor of Kisii County in 2013.
Speaking at Kisii on Saturday, the governor said that when he became the county boss, the rate of infection across the county stood at 8 per cent. However, his government laid plans and strategies to curb the rate of infection.
According to the professional results of 2018, the rate of HIV infection in the county had dropped to 4.4 per cent in Kisii county.
"When I became the governor in 2013, the number of people who were suffering from HIV/AIDs was 8 per cent, but now due to the plans we had set, the number of people with HIV/Aids has fallen to 4.4 per cent," Ongwae said.
"People who were infected with the disease were 4,900 but as we are talking now the number had fallen to 1,200 in 2018. So by now, it must have fallen further," Ongwae added.
The county boss was saying this while asking residents to come out in large numbers and attend the World AIDs Day that will be commemorated on Sunday at the Gusii Stadium.
He also asked Men not to get afraid to come out and get tested in order to know their status. Pregnant mothers also were advised not to deliver in their houses but do it in hospitals.
