Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua now says the country doesn't need a referendum before 2022.
Speaking at Milele FM on Tuesday Mutua stated that the county needs to focus on more important things than a referendum.
"I feel that a referendum before 2022 will bring about a polarized country. There is so much to do, so many hurdles to handle; unemployment, over taxation etc. Let's focus on this first before we think of a referendum," he tweeted.
Calls for a referendum in the country have been received by different opinions from both Kenyans and leaders.
The handshake team being lead by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga wants the referendum.
They came up with a Building Bridges Initiative(BBI), a team that was tasked with getting views from Kenyans on various issues.
As per now, Kenyans, according to renown political analyst and University of Nairobi lecturer Herman Manyora, do not agree with the issues stated on the referendum.
Through his YouTube channel, Manyora further claims that Kenyans don't trust the BBI team and that they don't agree with the change in the Constitution to create more posts like the Prime Minister.
