The community has been forced to carry coffins of their loved ones for several kilometers from the closest morgue back home for burial due to lack of roads, reports the Citizen Digital.

The journey from Orokwo Location to the closest mortuary takes several hours on foot, subjecting residents to hardships after collecting the body of a loved one.

According to Bowen Mengich, a resident, the same is made worse by the fact that they have to endure a rocky terrain with the coffins on their backs, as they maneuver their way to burial sites.

At times, he added, they slide and fall with the caskets, leading to double tragedy, adding that both levels of government are yet to intervene, despite them urging the government to intervene.

This has as well affected women, with some expectant mothers reportedly having to deliver along the way due to the long distances between their homes and the nearest medical facilities.
