Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has dismissed claims that she has been arrested after a man shot dead during chaos at the home of Ganda Ward ODM candidate Ruben Katana. Jumwa took to social media moments after the reports of her arrest and dispelled the same. She said she is doing fine and urged voters to turn up in large numbers to take part in the mini poll.
"I wish to officially dispel all rumours and propaganda peddled in social media platforms and mainstream media," she said.
The man died after there was a scuffle between supporters of ODM and their rival. It all started when reportedly Jumwa stormed the meeting organised by ODM agents at the house of Katana. Katana is contesting for the upcoming by-elections in Ganda Ward.
Sources indicate that the meeting had been scheduled to plan how the agents of the party were going to handle the mini poll only for Jumwa and her team to force their way to the place under unclear circumstances.
During the incident, an unknown number of persons sustained injuries following a confrontation between the two groups. Jumwa reportedly forcefully entered into the venue of the meeting while questioning why the agents had held the meeting at night yet the time for campaigning was over.
The officials of the party maintained that the meeting had been organised to train the agents before hell broke loose at the place. Aisha Jumwa later denied being involved in the drama.
Malindi sub-county Police Commander Phillip Wambugu has confirmed that the police has embarked on a probe into the matter.
