Three persons were on Friday arraigned in court for attempting to reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) amounting to more than Sh2 million.
The trio, who are tax agents, reportedly colluded with two different companies to conduct the illegal business. The accused appeared in court alongside the directors of the two companies.
The agents are linked to Ogot & Associates. They were presented in court alongside directors from the Samumu Construction Services and Gaab Transporters Limited.
While appearing before the Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Ogweno, the suspects denied the allegations levelled against them by the complainant.
The suspects in the fraud case are; Rolland Anakaya Chiriswa, David Osore Wesonga, Wilson Ogot Owera, David Osore Wesonga, Mohamed Moalin Mohamed and Wilson Ogot Owera.
The agents reportedly made incorrect statements during the recording of VAT returns for the months of March, April, May and June 2016.
The changes the accused persons made affected the firm's VAT liability.
In the second case, Sammy Kamuio, a director of Samumu Construction Services Limited reportedly colluded with Chiriswa, Wesonga and Owera to create an incorrect statement for the month of April in 2016 to the Commissioner for Domestic Taxes.
All the accused persons denied the charges levelled against them when they appeared before the court.
