Mary Auma Oliech will finally be laid to rest on Saturday August 11, 2018 in Seme, Kisumu County.
Mama Oliech, the mother of former Harambee Stars Captain Dennis Oguta Oliech died at her Lavington home in Nairobi on July 20, after a long battle with cancer.
Initially, there were reports of a family division on when she should be laid to rest with some family members proposing August 11, while others were for August 18.
The division saw two different obituaries placed in the Nation Newspaper early in the week.
According to Nickson Onywanda who is Mama Mary Oliech’s eldest son, they met elders and ironed out differences surrounding her mother’s burial.
“Yes it is true there were differences in burial dates, but it all comes to one thing that she is our mother. One group wanted one date for their own reasons the other date also for different reasons. There was no unanimous decision on when to lay to rest our mother,” Onywanda said.
He added, “So, one group placed an advert on the paper and the other followed suit. I cannot stop anyone from doing it. I understand why there is confusion but we as the family sat down with the elders and ironed out issues. They stated that decision will be made by the eldest son, which is me. I chose 11th where the majority had decided.”
Mama Mary Oliech is famous for bring forth footballer sons, such as Dennis Oliech and former Harambee Stars player Andrew Oyombe.
