Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Joel Kairu has hit out at the opposition for questioning Deputy President William Ruto's involvement in fundraisers, especially in churches.
The Raila Odinga-led team has repeatedly taken issue with Ruto's deep pockets, challenging him to explain the source of the money he gives to churches through contributions.
However, speaking on Wednesday, Kairu defended the DP's actions, dismissing the opposition as a side made of mean people who are now attempting to pass the same to the DP.
He also defended Ruto over claims of engaging in early politicking ahead of his 2022 presidential bid, terming it a propaganda sponsored and spread by Raila and his team.
"Hawa hawapendi kutoa fungu la kumi na ndio maana wakituona harambee wanasema tunapiga kampeni (they do not want to give tithe hence their claims that we are politicking when we attend fundraisers)," he said.
The Nakuru speaker was speaking on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Wednesday night.
In reference to Raila's recent implication in the fake gold scandal involving the Dubai royal family, Kairu mocked the leader and his team, claiming that they have since left the church.
"Hawa watu wamewachana na kanisa, mambo yao sasa ni hekalu na misikiti (they have left the church and are now dealing with temples and mosques)," he added.
Raila has since denied any involvement in the Sh400 million controversial deal, terming himself the whistleblower.
