Dunstan Sifuna succumbed to head injuries at the Bomet Health Centre on Wednesday, after reportedly being beaten by police officers at the Bomet Central Police Station Tuesday night.

His mother Ester Nasimiyu on Friday called upon Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti to investigate the matter, insisting that her son was killed by the police.

She wondered why her son was unconditionally released after being beaten and not arraigned in court if he was indeed on the wrong, after being arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

"On his release, my son had a blood-stained shirt. I inquired what happened to him, fearing he might have been beaten up by thugs. But he explained that he was roughed up the whole night at the police cells," she was quoted by the Standard.

The mother added that her son, while on his deathbed, revealed that he was roughed up for not having the money that was allegedly being demanded by the police.

"My son implicated some people who were in the cell with him. He says the suspects were demanding money from him which he did not have. His cries were never responded to by the officers on duty. I need this matter to be thoroughly investigated and the culprits brought to book," she added.

However, the allegations have been dismissed by Bomet sub-county Police Commander Geoffrey Walumbe who said that he had no information about such an incident.
