Police have launched a manhunt for suspected machete-wielding men who escaped arrest after police intercepted their car.
Police say Toyota ISIS car was flagged down along Malindi-Mombasa Road at the Nyali Bridge at around 8 pm on Sunday.
However, the car's three occupants stormed out of the car and ran away immediately after they were asked to stop for a normal police check.
Other reports state that the car had more than three occupants that were seen by the police.
On Monday, Nyali sub-county Police Commander Simon Thirikwa said bloody machetes were found after they searched the car, adding that they suspect the car's occupants had committed a crime.
The car was moving towards Mombasa Island, and it was suspected to be coming from Bombolulu, where a newly formed gang dubbed 'Wakali Chee' members were busted and arrested.
"Police gave a chase to the suspects but no arrest was made, upon searching they managed to recover three machetes, one having bloodstains. We suspect the occupants of the car were travelling to someplace to commit a crime," said the police boss.
A woman who claimed she owned the car in question told the police that her grandson had borrowed it.
The car was towed to Nyali Police Station.
