Speaking on the sidelines of a youths' conference that was hosted in Uasin Gishu, the governor said that relationships should not be taken as life and death matters.

"I think in a nutshell what I would tell them is that it is not a matter of life and death. Why are you under pressure? When you are told no, tell her thank you very much! When you meet her just greet her... It is not a matter of life and death, please!" Mandago advised.

He urged those battling depression over their romantic overtures being rejected to not stay in silence but to talk to share their issues with other people.

"And please if you think you have reached the wall, I would also want to encourage young people, go talk to someone, go talk to someone senior. Don't keep it to yourself. If you share, people will give you advice and you will realise that yours is childs' play... Relax don't be under any pressure," he added.

Mandago's words come in the wake of a spike in homicides involving young lovers.

A Moi University student, Ivy Wangeci, was hacked to death a few months ago allegedly by a jilted lover in Eldoret.
