Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji has asked politicians and clan elders to stop commenting on the ongoing probe on former Garissa Finance Executive Idriss Mukhtar's attempted murder.
Senator Haji wants politicians to allow detectives time to do their work.
The former Defence Minister says that commenting on the attempted assassination could jeopardise police investigations.
According to Haji, police have the machinery to unravel the mystery surrounding Mukhtar's attempted murder.
"Detectives should be left to do their investigation and take action against those they will find culpable," Haji told journalists in Nairobi on Friday.
The Senator said that Mukhtar's attempted murder is taking a nasty direction following comments by some politicians and clan elders.
Police have intensified the probe into the former CEC attempted murder with two key suspects in police custody.
Last week, a key suspect, David Mwai committed suicide at Parklands police station.
Mwai was buried in Nakuru on Friday.
Garissa Governor Ali Korane is among people who have been quizzed by detectives in regards to the attempted assassination.
Korane has, however, denied any links to Mukhtar's attempted murder and instead blamed his political critics for maliciously linking him to the case.
Mukhtar's family has been accusing police of allegedly plotting to cover up the case.
The Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti has assured the family that the truth on Idris's attempted murder will come out.
