The embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is expected to appear today before a magistrate court in Voi to face assault charges.
This follows a directive issued last week on December 6 by the police spokesperson Charles Owino. Apparently if he fails to appear before the court, the police will hunt him physically.
As per the charge sheet seen by the media Sonko assaulted a police officer who was mandated to inspect his arrest and transportation from Voi to Nairobi EACC offices.
The Taita Taveta police commander said that Sonko is expected to face 3 assault charges which include resisting police arrest and disorderly conduct for battling police officers when they arrested him on December 6 and flew him to Nairobi to face graft charges.
The director of criminal investigation Noordin Haji earlier directed the authorities to ensure Mike Sonko faces the alleged charges. Sonko's dramatic arrest happened last week when the police were ordered to arrest him in a bid to arraign him in court to face charges of graft , economic crime and abuse of office.
Last week after appearing at Milimani law courts, Nairobi, he denied 19 counts of corruption. Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti released him on a Sh15 million cash bail.
