In an interview aired on NTV, Sunday, Odinga recalled how his daughter, Rosemary, had to be flown around the world in a frantic attempt to save her failing eyesight.

She was first flown to South Africa where she stayed for months while specialists attended to her.

Her situation was not as good as the Odinga family had expected it to be after the treatment so an alternative had to be found.

From South Africa, Odinga said, Rosemary was flown to Israel only to find out that the facilities there could not offer the treatment she required.

"My wife had to hire an apartment in Johannesburg to just to attend to her for three months. When she came here, she was still not quite good, we sent her to Israel but we found the facilities there were not good for this particular treatment," Odinga said,   according to a video shared on YouTube.

It would be discovered that the operation that was done in South Africa was not properly done after an MRI scan was done.

On the advice of a professor, she was sent to China where she was put under the knife to remove a growth.

"That's how we sent her to China, and in China, they did a wonderful job," Raila said.

From China, Rosemary was taken to Germany but she did not regain her sight.

When a friend of the former Prime Minister suggested that Rosemary be taken to India to an institution that uses traditional medicine, the family was sceptical but they gave it a try.

In India, Raila said, she stayed for 4 weeks and then came back.

When the results came, the family was asked to buy Rosemary special eyeglasses which when she wore them, she started seeing.

"It was a big relief for the entire family, " Raila said.
