Dr Ruto was invited to the same church, which is situated barely 300 meters from the governor's private residence some days ago,  causing political tension for some time after the county chief snubbed the event.

While holding a fundraiser at the church, Dr Ruto, who visited the region in October, wondered why the second-term governor was missing in action.

On Saturday, Nyagarama was the chief guest of the second fundraiser, which also featured President Uhuru Kenyatta and Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i.

"I am happy that the president and our minister (Matiang'i) agreed to support us. Our main aim is to always serve God," Nyagarama said.

"Personally, I am a church elder and I don't like politicking. We always leave everything to God to judge. I am also happy that we are almost completing the church," he said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta sent a donation of Sh500,000 while Dr Matiang'i gave Sh100,000. The governor also gave Sh100,000 during the event.

Governor Nyagarama has been keen to avoid Dr Ruto's functions in Gusii, aligning himself towards the handshake team which also supports Matiang'i.

Borabu MP Ben Momanyi was also present during the Saturday's event. Conspicuously, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, a close ally of DP Ruto also attended.
