Deputy President (DP) William Ruto has insisted that he will not stop visiting and supporting churches as long as he remains in power.
Speaking on Sunday when he led fundraisers for several churches in Meru, the DP accused those against his frequent church visits as being 'members of the dark world'.
“Those who don’t believe in God and are the persecutors of Christianity, they will not defeat God’s work,” the DP said as quoted by Nation.
Regarding 2022 politics, Ruto noted that he is ready to face former Prime Minister Raila Odinga when that time comes.
He, however, urged the opposition chief not to cause chaos if he contests, and fails to clinch the presidential seat in 2022.
The DP noted that at the moment he is busy supporting the president in his bid to leave a legacy before he completes his term, and will not be drawn into politicking.
“Nimeskia kwamba yule mtu wa vitendawili ametangaza ya kwamba anataka kushindana na mimi kura 2022. Haya mambo nimeyaskia, lakini kwa sasa, mimi niko na kazi ya kufanya. (I have heard that the riddle man has announced that he wants to compete with me in the 2022 vote… but for now, I have work to do)," he said.
"I want to tell him that I am not worried about competing him but I want him to reassure Kenyans that he will not cause chaos,” he added.
The DP was accompanied by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, MPs; Charity Kathambi (Njoro) Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Catherine Waruguru (Laikipia), Mugambi Rindiki (Buuri), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha) and Halima Mucheke.
