Deputy President William Ruto shared a podium with opposition leader Raila Odinga on Monday at State House in Nairobi.
The two leaders were hosted by President Uhuru Kenyatta who had invited his South Sudan counterpart Salva Kiir for a State House banquet.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta this evening hosted a State Banquet in honour of the President of the Republic of South Sudan H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit. President Kiir is in the country for a 2-day State Visit," State House said in a tweet.
Earlier on Monday, Ruto had fired salvos at Raila when he visited Ekerenyo in North Mugirango, Nyamira County. He accused the ODM leader of sabotaging the Jubilee administration.
A furious Ruto also vowed to knock down Mr Odinga, adding that he's the reason behind sluggish development in the country, remarks that rattled Raila's ODM.
“He (Raila) has been alleging corruption in Eurobond, dams, SGR and the Northern Collector Tunnel Water Project. They want you to continue being poor so that they can continue oppressing you. I’m asking, what kind of a leader are you, visionless and planless? You oppose everything because you are the lord of poverty. Someone who opposes development, is he leading people who are alive or dead? He can only lead cows or goats,” he said.
The meeting came hours after Raila's ODM responded to Dr Ruto through Secretary General Edwin Sifuna. They accused the DP of lacking integrity despite being a national leader.
It remains unclear if the two leaders shook hands at State House. President Uhuru Kenyatta has been keen to have them reconciling for the sake of unity in Kenya.
