Governor Alfred Mutua on Wednesday shared a podium with his longtime political rival, former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama.
The two leaders met during the burial of business mogul Paul Mbole in Kalama, Machakos County.
As usual, politics took center stage during the businessman’s burial.
Mutua called on Kamba leaders to unite for the sake of the region’s growth.
He said petty politics has denied the region share of national development.
Mutua observed that the region has to work together to attain her development goals.
“Moving forward, we must work together as a region for the benefit of our people,” Mutua said.
He defended the formation of Peoples Empowerment Movement (PEM), stating that it will champion the region's development.
On his part, Muthama hit out at some leaders whom he accused of frustrating Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2022 presidential bid.
Muthama asked Kamba politicians to respect Kalonzo and rally behind him in 2022.
Mutua and Muthama fell out in 2013.
The two Kamba politicians have been trading political barbs at each other over the county’s leadership.
Mutua has often labeled Muthama as an ‘enemy’ of development.
The former Machakos Senator, on the other hand, has often described Mutua as an incompetent leader.
Muthama did not contest any seat in the August 8, 2017, general election.
