A security expert now says a recent incident where a student tried to access the State House is an indication of how Kenyans treat the president's official residence.
According to the expert, Dr Hassan Khannenje, the director, Horn International Institute for Strategic Studies, due to the democracy the county enjoys, Kenyans treat the State House like the people's house, where they can visit any time they want.
Speaking during an interview on NTV, Dr Khannenje also pointed out that in other countries, citizens can only see the State House walls on televisions.
He was responding to an incident I which Brian Kibet Bera was on Monday shot and arrested for trespassing on the State House.
It was alleged the 5th year JKUAT Mechanical Engineering student had gone to the State House to execute judgment to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his close associates, as directed by God.
"This is a testament that we treat State House as the people’s house. In some countries the walls of presidential palaces can only be seen on TV, with us you can get close enough to start climbing the wall," said Dr Khannenje in the interview shared on Facebook.
He however said, what the JKUAT student did should not be perceived as any threat to the President.
"I don't think he was near to causing a threat to the President," he noted.
The student sustained gunshot injuries and was admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital where he is receiving treatment.
