Political analyst Prof Herman Manyora has reiterated his initial view that the Punguza Mizigo constitutional amendment push is dead and will not make any effect.

The Thirdway Alliance-sponsored bill seeks to among others, slash elective representation by over a half, in what it says will spare the tac layer the current heavy tax burden.

Manyora now says that bill is headed nowhere, and the rival, the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) could also follow suit and find itself in the same situation going forward.

"I'm saying Punguza Mizigo is dead and the BBU could suffer the same fate," he said on Saturday, stressing that the nation could go to the 2022 polls with the current structure.

He made the remarks on his weekly YouTube analysis channel Take It or Leave It on Saturday, at a time when Kenyans are the BBI taskforce report.

Led by ODM leader Raila Odinga, the opposition block has insisted that the task force will propose constitutional changes in its report.

Among changes being pushed by the BBI include the expansion of the executive and a return to the initial parliamentary governance system from the current presidential system.

The push also enjoys the backing of President Uhuru Kenyatta who has stressed on the need for the abolition of the current "winner takes it all" arrangement.

In an initial analysis, Manyora said that the exclusion of the nation's leading political figures in the Punguza Mizigo bill will see them tally their support against it, and kill it in their strongholds.

Similarly, he added, they will use their allies to frustrate them but in their (the allies) backyards, making its survival next to impossible.

"Will the counties in the former Nyanza province vote and go against Baba (Raila)? Will the Siaya MCAs vote? You have your answer, it is no," he said, adding that the same will be the case in Uhuru's Mt Kenya backyard.

Forces allied to Deputy President William Ruto have opposed BBI with others threatening to rally behind Punguza Mizigo.
