The presence of Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i in a meeting between Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday in Yacht Club has left many questions answered.
In a highly guarded meeting, It's only Dr Matiang'i of all the ministers who attended Mama Dorcas Owino's burial managed to get it to Kisumu where the two leaders met.
Notably absent despite having shared a podium with the two leaders were Eugene Wamalwa of Devolution and Raphael Tuju, the minister without portfolio.
But North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko, in an interview on Sunday, dismissed those claiming that Matiang'i is being groomed to be Uhuru's successor, adding that there is nothing special with the meeting.
"According to what I have read, they went to inspect the port. Then they had dinner. Remember Matiang'i is in charge of government projects. There is nothing special about the meeting," he said.
But political analyst Gideon Mamboleo opines that Matiang'i's continued presence in Uhuru-Raila meeting should not be taken for granted.
"The guy should not be dismissed. There is a possibility that he's being groomed. I will not be shocked if he's elected in 2022," he said.
In an interview with Sunday Standard, Dr Matiang'i however, said he's not interested in politics for now.
“I am a civil servant and it should be understood so. I don’t play politics because I have unfinished task of serving Kenyans as the President wants,” the CS told the Sunday Standard.
