Through the partnership, which went into effect in June 2019, Hivisasa now publishes its first-ever international news segment which carries content aggregated from CNN Newsource.

CNN Newsource is largely a video platform that also comprises of all the major US and international stories as well as more infotainment content covering travel, fashion and entertainment.

This partnership is a big boon for Hivisasa and its readership. After all, the Nairobi-based citizen-journalism platform has 5 million monthly users, 3 million of whom are outside Kenya. Hivisasa readers will now have access to exclusive content aggregated by CNN journalist and videographers.

According to Mr Mzwa Shongwe, Head of Monetization at Hivisasa, the main interest in putting together this content partnership was to give Hivisasa readers access to international news, to compliment the local stories they have come to source from Hivisasa's citizen-reporters. For instance, cinema lovers in Kenya will now have access to the latest news from Hollywood, and comedy lovers will get the latest candid camera comedic content.

“CNN content will be published under a new international news segment. Through this content partnership, Hivisasa can readily verify breaking international news from a trusted publishing brand. Primarily, the focus of the content would be in Kenya and all would be handled on our platform,” says Mr Mzwa.

Hivisasa is not only an innovative platform allowing readers to discover untold stories but also allows one to write their own.

The digital publisher currently covers 10 of some of the most populous counties in Kenya, with a keen eye on producing local news driven by an army of citizen reporters based in each county.

Note: The Hivisasa international content generated via CNN Newsource will have the #hivisasainternational hashtag.
