Police on Thursday night shot dead a suspected gangster in Mlolongo phase three.
According to Athi River police commander Samuel Mukuusi two suspects managed to escape.
The police boss said the trio who were armed with guns attacked an M-Pesa shop in the area with an intention to rob before they were busted by the police.
Mukuusi said that a homemade pistol and a magazine with bullets were recovered during the incident.
"Yesternight around 8.40pm armed robbers attacked an M-Pesa shop in Mlolongo phase three. Police arrived at the scene after getting the report, ordered the thugs to surrender but instead one of them took out their gun," said Mukuusi.
"The police were forced to shoot at them and one of them died on the spot while two others escaped," he added.
The commander noted that police have been searching for the gang which has been terrorizing business operators in the area.
He said police have launched a manhunt for the two suspects who escaped in order to bring them to justice.
Mukuusi stated that police won't relent in the fight against crime in Mlolongo and Athi River areas.
