Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has waded into the Mau Forest eviction debate.
Speaking on Saturday in Mt Elgon, the Ford Kenya party leader called for an investigation to be carried out to determine who took locals to the forest.
Once identified, the legislator called for those responsible for the Mau crisis to be punished.
"Look for the person who allowed them to go to the forest and punish him and then remove them from the forest in a humane manner, " the senator said. (3:03-3:12)
Wetangula further expressed the need for the government to identify alternative land for the locals in the forest, saying that they should not be given money.
His intervention comes in the context of a raging debate on the Mau issue.
A section of Rift Valley leaders have strongly opposed the evictions which the government is adamant must go on.
Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko said that ridding the forest of human habitation was aimed at protecting the water tower.
Tobiko said that there would be no compensation for anyone as those claiming to have genuine title deeds acquired them irregularly.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has warned that the evictions would result in a humanitarian catastrophe.
About 60,000 families are reported to be living in the forest.
