Amani National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Barrack Muluka has joined the bandwagon questioning Deputy President William Ruto's source of wealth.
Prominent politicians led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Nominated MP Maina Kamanda-led 'Team Kieleweke' have been questioning where Ruto gets the millions he generously donates in churches and in various fundraisers.
In his column published by Saturday Standard, Muluka also waded into the debate and asked the DP to explain to the world how he became wealthy.
Ruto has repeatedly stated it is through the 'grace of God and hard work' that he rose from a poor background to political and financial prominence.
"The DP often proclaims that he has worked hard for his wealth. Yet it is not enough for a man who seems to be excessively wealthy to tell the world that he has 'worked hard'. What is 'working hard'? Worked hard where? Doing what? With whom? When?" posed Muluka, a close ally of ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi.
Muluka noted that among the Luhya people, for one to earn respect and recognition as a hunter, he must reveal which forest he hunted and who saw him hunt.
He said for Kenyans to believe Ruto's wealth was obtained genuinely, he must provide 'witnesses' and more details about how he earned it.
"The DP is shy when it comes to talking about the forests he hunted in and who his witnesses are. Yet he will not pause from flaunting the gains from the mysterious forests. And he flaunts them scornfully," Muluka wrote.
In a recent interview on Kameme FM, Ruto told off his critics and noted he gets money to donate in churches from his business empire and wealthy friends.
"I have been in business for over 30 years. It is only that I cannot start saying I own this and this company. I also have many friends," he said.
