Police officers in Kisii County are currently scrutinizing Nyumba Kumi officials across the county.
This is after it emerged that some people are hiding in the Nyumba Kumi initiative to engage in criminal activities.
Confirming the scrutiny exercise, Kisii County Commissioner Godfrey Kigochi said Nyumba Kumi officials in deep villages will be investigated.
"We want to flush out some criminals who are claiming to be Nyumba Kumi officials but, in the real sense they criminals. It is illegal for one to claim to be a government representative while he or she is a notorious criminal," he said.
Kigochi said already the scrutiny has been concluded in Kisii Central ward.
"Some individuals in Kisii Central area who have been serving as Nyumba Kumi officials have been sacked from the initiative because they have been harassing poor locals," said the commissioner.
According to the county security boss, no village will be spared in the scrutiny.
He urged members of the public to report any Nyumba Kumi officials they suspect has been colluding with criminals to commit a crime.
"Crime must be at zero in the county so that our people can live in peace, unity and harmony," he added.
