Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has predicted no end for the Nairobi traffic congestion problem should the right steps not be taken by the relevant authorities.
The county has for years been grappling with traffic jams, which in turn cost the country billions of shillings in losses every year.
Speaking on Tuesday, the lawmaker stressed on the need for the introduction of a mass rapid transport system, terming it the only remaining remedy for the troublesome menace.
Speaking during an interview on NTV's AM Live show on Tuesday morning, he observed that other techniques like expanding the roads will not be of any help.
"The one thing Nairobi needs right now is an efficient and effective mass rapid transport system. We cannot solve the problem in Nairobi by expanding roads," he said.
This comes amid the government's plans to introduce state owned buses under the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, which the state aims at using to reduce the number of public service vehicles (PSV) accessing the city.
The government has since delegated specific roads the vehicles will use and marked sections of the road which will be set aside exclusively for them.
However, the initiative which is facing opposition from PSV stakeholders, is yet to kick off.
