Suna East lawmaker Junet Mohammed has once again faulted politicians opposed to the unity between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
A year after their decision to work together, a section of Deputy President William Ruto allies have declared discomfort in the union and Raila's closeness to the government.
Junet, a close ally of Raila, now says that this is coming from people who think that the handshake will sabotage Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Speaking on KTN's Pointblank show on Wednesday, he claimed that some Ruto allies are so convinced that his presidency is necessary and would do anything to help achieve it.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga are looking at the long-term vision of the country. But there is a group in the country who think the world is ending in 2022, Jesus is coming back and the only thing that can stop Jesus from coming back is Ruto being President," he said.
He noted that the wave has ended up sucking in unexpected people, including Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, who has been appearing close to Ruto lately.
The National Assembly Minority Whip observed that Kiunjuri has even turned against Uhuru, forgetting that he is in the Cabinet courtesy of his (Uhuru) appointment and will.
"Kiunjuri is holding a faction of leaders who are opposed to the president and holding them in a hotel and he is serving the same president who has appointed him, it's hypocritical, " he added.
The group, operating under the Tangatanga tag, has also continued endorsing Ruto's bid in defiance to Uhuru's anti-early campaigns directive.
This has seen them receive tongue lashings from the president severally, the latest incident being in Gatundu North in Kiambu county on Wednesday.
