Controversial Nandi Governor Stephen Sang was reportedly denied clearance for Canada trip on Saturday, renowned blogger Abraham Mutai has claimed.
Governor Sang had on Friday led residents in reclaiming Kaburet land which had allegedly been grabbed by a private developer who remains unknown.
"Governor Of Nandi County Arap Sang was yesterday (Saturday) evening denied a clearance to fly to Canada. He had a date with the ODPP," he tweeted.
Over the weekend, there were claims that police were on pursuit of the former senator with other reports indicating that he had been arrested in Kisumu.
However, a statement from his office on Sunday denied the arrest claims, adding that the governor had not been summoned by authorities over the destruction on the alleged grabbed land.
"The governor took a day off to be with his family. He has not seen any summons from authorities so far. He is a law abiding citizen and will voluntarily report to the station should there be such a directive," read the statement.
At a press conference on Monday, Sang appeared in public for the first time since Saturday morning. He defended his actions at Kaburet, adding that the process of reclaiming grabbed land was still on.
"The National Land Commission came here and even the court ruled in our favor. We started here in Kapsabet and Nandi Hills. The Kaburet land belongs to people. We have documents to prove it," he said amid cheers.
During the Friday's invasion, several tea bushes were destroyed by heavy machineries from the county. He did not address the claims that he had been blocked from flying to Canada.
