Some of the Uasin Gishu Kalenjin music fans are wondering on the whereabouts of Philip Yegon.

Yegon is a popular Kalenjin artist known for the famous hit song 'Emily Chepchumba'.

Locals knew Bamwai as he's popularly known through his songs that were common among revelers in the various clubs in Eldoret in the early 2000. 

Suddenly, he has not been heard in music industry after releasing various most loved songs such as ‘Ngoro Bamwai’ among others.

John Kimeli, an Eldoret businessman narrated his interest in the Kalenjin artist who made his youthful days.

“During 2004 when I finished high school, I used to attend clubs in Eldoret and whenever he came to entertain his fans, his songs were educating and entertaining,” Kimeli said maintaining that the musician is a legend to be remembered.

It’s also noted that his ‘Emily Chepchumba’ hit song was used by local athlete Ezekiel Kemboi in celebrating after winning steeplechase race in the 2011 IAAF Daegu World Championship.

“The song was sung everywhere in town, even in my business I used to play that song since most of my customers were Kalenjins," said Peter Kimani, a shoes seller in Eldoret town adding that he never understood the meaning of the song but he enjoyed it.

“I bought a disc containing his songs including the favorite Emily Chepchumba but someone stole, his songs were really lovable,” a woman who identified herself as Grace said. 

Philip Yegon was born Sotik, Bomet County.
