Kiambu Level 5 Hospital has been put on the spot after a doctor prescribed ‘wrong’ drugs to a woman who later miscarried.
The hospital's management has however defended a private chemist who gave the patient the drugs that led to the death of the unborn child.
The public health medical superintendent Jesse Ngugi admitted that one of the medics at the facility had prescribed the drugs to the patient, who was identified as Rachael Nzilani, 23, only to cost her the bundle of joy.
According to the Star, Ngugi said that he regrets the result of the prescribing, adding that they will investigate the matter and take the necessary action.
"It is true that the drug dispensed by the private chemist to the complainant was the one prescribed at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, it is the one that is prescribed for her condition," Ngugi said as quoted by the Star.
The expectant woman had purchased the drugs from a chemist at Githurai 45 estate before she took and lost the unborn baby.
She later launched a formal complaint to the facility.
The management of the Unified Pharmaceuticals had admitted having sold the medicine to the patient.
The team also said that matter had been settled.
