Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has unveiled a plan to transform Pumwani Maternity Hospital that has in the recent days been hit with shocking incidents.
Governor Sonko now says that his government has approved a plan to build a10 storey building that will house Pumwani Hospital.
Sonko says the the multi-billion plan is expected to be actualized within the next two years.
In the transformation plan, Sonko plans to put up 450-bed capacity maternity wards at the hospital.
In an artisic view of the building released on Friday, Sonko says the hospital will be properly equipped with modern facilities to handle all the needs of mothers and children.
The Governor says that the plan in partnership with Aga Khan hospital will also see more medics employed.
"We have embarked on a vigorous plan to tranform Pumwani and ensure city mother's and children get quality healthcare," the governor said.
Sonko said that Aga Khan hospital will deploy nurses, doctors and equipment at no cost for two years once the plan is complete.
Nairobi Governor said that he is determined to safegard the health of city dwellers especially women.
Pumwani has been hit with shocking incidents in the recent days, the latest being the alleged discovery of eleven bodies of infants stuffed into boxes.
Investigation into the the shocking incident is ongoing.
