The incident happened on Wednesday mid-morning at Nyamwanga village in Nyamira County.

Confirming the incident, area administrator John Maburi, said the victim Charles Mayaka was stabbed by Samson Orina after a disagreement ensued between them over a woman.

"Maburi was drunk when he demanded Janet Bosibori to accompany him to his house claiming she was his lover. Mr Orina who was with Bosibori removed a knife from his jacket and stabbed the victim from the back," he said.

Maburi said Orina escaped after the incident when residents threatened to lynch him.

"The suspect could have been lynched if he failed to escape since residents teamed up to set him ablaze. The victim was rushed to Nyamira hospital for treatment," said the chief.

He assured that a manhunt for the suspect has been launched.

"I stormed the chang'aa den with community policing members and destroyed 100 liters of chang'aa  as residents who were drinking were forced to run for their dear lives," he added.
