A middle aged woman is nursing injuries after she was thoroughly beaten by her husband on Sunday morning for allegedly engaging in outlawed illicit brew business.
The incident happened at Nyagesenda village in Kisii County.
The victim Beatrice Nyanchera was attacked by her husband Douglas Ombosu who returned from Nairobi where he works as a security guard.
"I returned home on Sunday night and found my wife boiling chang'aa. I was angered by her decision to run illegal business at my home without my knowledge," said Ombosu.
According to Ombosu, he has been away from his home for 8 months now.
"I usually send her Sh7,000 monthly for upkeep but, ended up starting the outlawed business. I beat her and destroyed the illicit brew before the local authorities could come to arrest her," he noted.
Area chief Moses Bongoye said Nyanchera has been a good woman who goes to church but, he could not understand how she ventured into the illegal business.
"I was shocked to learn that Nyanchera is a chang'aa boiler. People like her won't find peace in the village," he noted.
The chief called on men not to allow their wives to engage in illegal businesses adding that Ombosu could not have attacked his wife but, destroy the illicit brew only and warn her never to repeat the business.
