A standard five pupil, Peter Awour was found dead in Nyagacho estate on the outskirts of Kericho town.
The deceased's body was discovered by a passerby who reported the matter to the police.
Confirming the incidence, Kericho County Deputy Police Commander Patricia Nasio said that the pupil was found on Tuesday evening hanging in building under construction.
However, the police are yet to reveal why the student committed suicide.
"It is not immediately clear what time the deceased committed suicide since he had on Tuesday morning left for school only to be found dead at around 7 pm," said Nasio as quoted by Standard.
The Police Commander further revealed that the class five pupil was an orphan who used to live with his relatives.
The police have started investigations to determine what forced the young boy to take his own life.
"We are awaiting postmortem results as we also conduct an investigation to determine whether the death is indeed a suicide incident or there was foul play," said Nasio as quoted by Standard.
The deceased's body was pulled down and taken to Kericho County hospital mortuary.
This is not the first time a person has committed suicide in this region. A police report on suicide statistics shows that at least 13 people took their own lives within the last three months.
