Kisii County Police Commander Martin Kibet has fired warning shots at Probox drivers who have fully ventured into the transport business.
Speaking on Friday at his office, Kibet argued that Probox cars should not be used as public service vehicles (PSVs).
The police boss said Probox owners should stop using the vehicles to ferry passengers, adding that the cars are meant for personal use.
"It is worrying that Probox cars have invaded the Kisii region operating as PSVs. Probox car owners should stop using the cars as PSVs because the cars are not supposed to be used as PSVs," he said.
He further raised concern over the number of Probox vehicles that have been involved in road accidents in the area.
The commander urged members of the public to stop using the vehicles as their means of transport, noting that most of the drivers are careless.
"Residents should not take their lives for granted by boycotting using Probox cars as PSVs. Police officers at roadblocks should not spare the drivers using the cars to ferry passengers as this will help to curb accidents on our roads," added Kibet.
The commander said the vehicles mostly operate in Nyacheki, Keroka, Kilgoris, Masimba, Marani and Kegogi.
