Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has told his critics to stop pressuring him to pick a candidate for the deputy governor's position.
Sonko says that he is taking time to consult with Jubilee Party leadership before settling on a candidate to fill the deputy governor position.
According to Sonko, he does not want to make a mistake of picking a wrong person for the deputy position.
“I will nominate another Miguna Miguna if people keep pressuring me,” he told journalists on Thursday during his father's memorial anniversary at his Mua home.
Governor Sonko added, “Saa hii hakuna pressure, ile wakati walinipea pressure nikawapatia Miguna. Mi sitaki kupewa pressure, nikipewa pressure nitawapatia Miguna mwingine (Now there is no pressure, the other time they gave me pressure and I gave them Miguna, if they pressure me again I will give them another Miguna."
Governor Sonko said that he needs time to settle on the right candidate who will have the drive to work for Nairobians.
A section of Nairobi MCAs are pressuring Sonko to pick his deputy.
The MCAs have even threatened to initiate an impeachment motion against Sonko if he does not pick his deputy.
The Nairobi deputy governor position was left vacate after the resignation of Polycarp Igathe in January.
Governor Sonko has since shortlisted four women among them former Starehe MP Margret Wanjiru to fill the position.
