A group of 11,000 scientists from across the world have provided their backing for research that shows that the world is facing a climate crisis.
They fired a warning that unless drastic measures are taken by governments then the world would face untold suffering.
We declare clearly and unequivocally that planet Earth is facing a climate emergency,” it states. “To secure a sustainable future, we must change how we live. [This] entails major transformations in the ways our global society functions and interacts with natural ecosystems, " added.
Quick action must be taken to save the world from the most devastating impact of the climate emergency.
“The climate crisis has arrived and is accelerating faster than most scientists expected. It is more severe than anticipated, threatening natural ecosystems and the fate of humanity, '' the statement further read.
The researchers said that they have a responsibility to sound a warning about the scale of the threat that the world faces.
The damning statement comes in the wake of President Donald Trump sending a notice to the United Nations that the United States of America wants to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord.
Professor Prof William Ripple, an Oregon State University scholar and lead author of the statement, said that he was moved to publish the warning because of the extreme weather events that he was witnessing.
