The stadium which is being renovated into a 20,000-seater capacity sports facility is slowly coming out of the empty field and dusty state it initially was in.

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, while signing the Sh394 million deal with Jiangsu Province Constructions Group on October 30 last year, said that the project is in line with his leadership's commitment to improving sporting infrastructure.

The county boss, however, on Friday sought to defend his leadership over the slow pace of the project which was to be completed in 10 months.

According to the county boss, the works are on schedule, noting that the works will be completed in the next three months.

“The stadium will reach a practical completion on December 6, but June 2020 is the final completion date,” he told the Nation.

The only complete part as of now is the leveling of the pitch and the erection of a perimeter wall around the field which housed most political campaigns in the county in the run-up to the 2013 and 2017 polls.

The construction of the two terraces and VIP stands has started, with the stadium expected to be the home team of Division One League team Bondo United once complete.
