Kenyan social media users have expressed mixed reactions after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was released on cash bail.
The netizens appear to be divided on the subject with some supporting the ruling by Anti-Corruption Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti while others opposing it.
A section of the netizens who opposed the ruling argued that Sonko may interfere with the investigations and consequently cripple the case. They added that a scenario of the governor being released on cash bail and eventually winning the case was a familiar one.
Some of the netizens, however, expressed concern over the leadership of the Nairobi as a Capital City, citing that Sonko should pave way for investigations.
A number of the netizens, however, supported the ruling on the grounds a suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty. They further pointed out that Governor Sonko had the right for a bail application.
According to this group of netizens, Governor Sonko should be free so as to continue running the county government since he does not have a deputy.
Mike Sonko is the third governor to be barred from accessing office after Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu and Samburu County Governor Moses Lenolkulal suffered the same fate.
