The Nakuru Court has temporarily stopped the burial of a police officer following an application by one of his wives.
Trizar Nabwire Ouma, the second wife, moved to court seeking orders to stop the burial of her late husband Bernard Ngugi Gitau.
Nabwire in her application accused her co-wife Jane Nyambura Ngugi of trying to lock her out of the burial arrangements despite her being legally married to Gitau.
Nabwire in her court documents said she got married to Gitau in 2012 as the second wife and the officer who died on August 21 after a long battle of diabetes had been taking care of the family.
The mother of two claimed that Nyambura secretly transferred Gitau’s body from Naivasha District Hospital mortuary to Kikuyu Mission Hospital without informing her.
Nabwire who claimed she together with her two children were not involved in the burial plans said she was informed by Ngugi’s colleagues at the Eburu Police Station in Nakuru that the burial is was schedule to take place in August 31.
Nabwire had also filed an application seeking orders to restrain the National Police Service Commission, Pioneer Insurance Limited, Police Sacco and the Cooperative Bank of Kenya from releasing her husband’s benefits until the court decides on a succession case.
Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Usui in her ruling stopped the burial and also issued orders barring the hospital from releasing the body to anyone pending the determination of the case.
The case will be heard on September 2.
