Boundary disputes pitying Kisumu and neighboring counties is far from over.
For over a month now, the talk has been about Nandi County leadership laying claim to seven towns in Kisumu, among them Kibos, Muhoroni and Chemelil.
Flares seem to have cooled after Cabinet Secretary for Interior Fred Matiang’i intervened in the border row by urging Nandi Governor Stephen Sang and his Kisumu counterpart Professor Anyang' Nyong’o to ensure peace prevails along the border.
But now the focus may soon turn to neighboring Kericho County.
On Tuesday, the Kipsigis Council of Elders in Kericho County called for the redrawing of the boundary between Kericho and Kisumu.
The Council’s chairman Paul Leleitto claimed that historical maps indicate that areas in Kisumu such as Chemelil and Muhuroni were originally located in Kericho.
“Governor Paul Chepkwony and his Kisumu counterpart Professor Anyang' Nyong’o should enter into talks in order to ensure the matter is amicably resolved,” Paul Leleitto was quoted by the Standard.
Recently, the Nandi leadership claimed seven towns in the neighbouring Kisumu County.
The leaders led by Governor Sang wanted the National Land Commission to review the boundary so that the towns become part of Nandi.
The towns are: Chemelil, Muhoroni, Miwani, Kibigori, Kibos, Koru and Kopere.
